At the Nordic region's largest food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, visitors will be able to explore the kitchens of the world, as well as food from the best of the city's own Michelin-starred restaurants at special, bargain-prices. Copenhagen Cooking runs from 19-28 August with a more spectacular programme than ever.
Copenhagen's annual international food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, offers a wealth of opportunities for guests to indulge their taste-buds, regardless of the size of their wallets. Around 85 events will include gourmet street festivals, the Nordic region's top restaurants gathered together in Kødbyen (the Meat Packing district), food walks, cooking schools, international street kitchens and Michelin-quality food at low prices.
This will be the seventh time that Copenhagen Cooking has offered a spectacular, late-summer culinary experience. This year the festival will open with the Copenhagen Wine Forum on the 19th August, at Forum. This year's festival programme features much loved events as well as a range of new, cutting edge experiences where guests will have a chance to celebrate both local and international cuisine.
Gourmet food, street-style
One of the new events is 'Nordic Taste', which runs 27-28 August in Den Hvide Kødby (part of the Meat Packing district), and will be opened by the new patron of Copenhagen Cooking 2011, HRH Princess Marie. 'Nordic Taste' will see 30 top Nordic restaurants offering tastings with their emphasis on local produce and food traditions. There will also be a German wine festival, Nordic cocktails and all kinds of delicacies.
Taking place during the same weekend out on Refshale Island will be the 'MAD Foodcamp', brainchild of noma's René Redzepi and Claus Meyer. As its inaugural theme, this pioneering food festival will explore and celebrate the bounty of the plant kingdom. You will be able to meet the farmers behind some of the region's best produce, attend workshops, inspect grazing animals and shop at a large fruit and vegetable market.
Budget-friendly Michelin food and international street kitchen
One of Copenhagen Cooking's perennially popular events is 'Taste of Copenhagen' where the city's best restaurants offer special menus for special prices. This year all the city's Michelin restaurants are taking part - noma, Kong Hans, AOC, Kiin Kiin, Kokkeriet and Søllerød Kro. Tickets are sure to sell out fast when they go on sale 10 August.
Though the festival's main programme runs from 19-28 August, there will be an extra opportunity for a unique taste experience 3-4 September when 'International Day - Taste the World' takes place in partnership with Copenhagen Council. Copenhagen's Rantzausgade will be transformed into a giant kitchen with Danish, Spanish, Mexican and Brazilian restaurants serving up tastings from their respective national cuisines.
This year's Copenhagen Cooking poster/press photo is created by chef and Bocuse d'Or winner, Rasmus Kofoed. 'The woman lies on a bed of yellow archangel, an often used ingredient in the Nordic kitchen,' he says, adding that, 'The picture reflects Nordic minimalism and simplicity, two things I strive for in my own kitchen.'
